how exactly do you servers work?? i mean websites buy servers so their downloads would go faster right?? how do they crash?? then do you buy them from web host??? can some please tell me which servers are good
What are severs??
Well in all honesty servers are mainly the software installed on a computer. Most servers are designed to be servers in that they are a little more powerful and have some redundancy that your home computer doesn't. Many have dual power supplies, dual processors, RAID configured hard drive systems etc.
Dell , HP, IBM, Apple, nearly all manufacturers have servers.
But to learn about them all you need is a computer with server software installed. In fact you can even use XP Pro or 2000 Pro for a server if you want configuration is the key.
I personnaly run Linux it is a great server software package.. reguardless. Try Fedora, or Ubuntu Servers.
What are severs??
Servers work by serving data to clients. Websites don't buy servers so their downloads go faster, they buy servers to serve data! They crash the same as any other computer when then do crash. The best servers run UNIX styled operating systems, such as Solaris and Linux, as they are secure as crash extremely infrequently.

Reply:servers are what all websites all over the world are on. u can buy server space from companies, to put ur files on remote storage somewhere on the internets. go to a web hosting site like godaddy and buy a domain and hosting space to put a site. u dont have to worry about servers. servers are just regular computers that run a diffrent operating system. they crash less often tha regular computers do, but wen they do, it can bring down websites.
thats a rly good answers below me.
Reply:1- A server is a term that is used to describe either a machine, or a program that is supposed to deliver information to other computers linked by a network.
2- How do servers work: In a client server application, the client requests a task from a server. The server responds to the client delivering it what it asked for. For example when you type a URL in your browser's address bar, your computer is a the client machine where the client software (your browser) requests a page from a server (typically a web server). The web server sends the page to the client (your browser) which displays it on the client machine (your computer).
3- Websites do NOT buy servers. Website owners buy or pay for server space. To be exact with our terms, the website content resides on the server. The more space you buy, the more content your website can hold.
4- How do they crash? Servers run software on them (just like your computer). Sometimes the software hangs. At other times, the server machines suffers from a hardware failure. This results in a server crash.
5- Which servers are good? It depends on what kind of servers you are talking about. Are you talking about the machine where server programs are installed or on the server programs themselves? Either ways, no answer exist for this question.
Hope this helps.
