Starting an email server requires alot of money and time and a dedicated line for your server.

first, you have to answer to yourself, do you want to OWN the equipment? or do you want to use a hosting service... the difference: the hosting service owns the equipment and they will lease it to you for a certain amount of money, if you were to buy a server, since you are going to spend A LOT of money, and then you'd have to pay even more on a dedicated line of a T-1 at least, and also some consultant fees for someone to come and configure your server, well after all that problem, you can actually sell your hosting services.


if you go for the route of the Hosting company, you can get for about $24 a year space for your website, about 100 e-mail addresses to match your domain, that you, as the site administrator, can create and delete e-mail accounts as you please, and is very easy.


Or you can just get a pop3 e-mail account for yourself from yahoo. Is very cheap, but it would be for you only, each account you have to buy separately.
