They said they need my ftp and cpanel.. I'm pretty sure I know what my ftp is but what is my "cpanel" and where do I find it? I'm using Yahoo as my web host. Thank you

CPanel is your Control Panel and your web hosting company should have supplied you with one. If you do not remember anything, call (or email) them and ask them for the user name and the password (in your case- also how to access you cpanel).





I access my CPanel from my hosting company's website :) CPanel username is usually your domain name and uses a different password from the FTP.





Please make sure you trust the guys who requested your details.. you should never just give some strangers such details so that they can handler your business unless you trust them...

Not sure about yahoo.





Also I wouldn't give out your main FTP details if I were you. Instead log into your Cpanel once you find it :) and add another FTP user and only give them access to the folder they need, once your script is installed delete that user.

I want my website to be completely original, that is when I purchase the domain name, but I don't have the first idea about layouts. I use Photoshop cs2, and I am good at it, but I don't understand the whole coding thing. Here are my questions...

Is it possible to configure the cpanel error log?

I've got a web host that uses the cpanel control panel (http://cpanel.net/index.html) on a unix platform.





The error log is set up to report the most recent 300 errors, but many of the errors I get have to do with IP addresses I've blocked from my system (spam bots). I'd like to ignore these errors and only track those that are useful to me.





Is it possible to configure what errors get reported by cpanel?

I'm trying to store a php script online. Not a webpage USING php, but a php SCRIPT. I'm not really sure how to do this :D lol. I signed up with this free 'php web host" but everytime i store the script it tries to turn it into a webpage. I don't know how to tell it that I want to store just a script. I have a feeling I'm doing everything completely wrong.. anyone know what I should do? Thanks for any help ^^

Reply:I think you are misunderstanding what a PHP script is.





When you execute a PHP script it will output the result to the stream. So if you execute the PHP script by pointing your browser to where you have it housed your browser will display the output. On the other hand if you executed it through dos the output would be displayed in the dos window.

I dont know if google page creater is a good web host or if it even is.

I've never used it, but Google does warn that it's a program under development. There are a few tutorials out there so that will help. I'm not sure how many pages you can create because Google may have a limit on their hosting site. If you want a free web design program, have a look at NVU at http://www.nvu.com/index.php

Suggestions on how to lower website memory usage?

My web host is telling me that my website is using too much memory. I did everything I can think of to bring it down, but unfortunately it's still much higher than what's acceptable. Any suggestions on how I can lower the memory usage of my website is welcome. BTW, my site is in PHP, content only (no chats, forums, etc). I do have Wordpress installed with a number of plugins enabled.

Make sure that all of your images are converted/scaled to a small size.





For example: If you have a picture that is 800 pixels by 600pxls and you are displaying it a 160pxls x 120pxls, shrink it down to 160pxls by 120pxls!





You don't need high-res pictures if they don't need to be enlarge or viewed closer.

Reply:If you have the WP-Cache module installed, that might be the problem. Caching increases the speed of the site by using additional memory. Try disabling it.





You can manually set the memory limit with this:


ini_set("memory_limit","16M");


To whatever you need, of, if you have access to the php.ini file, you can add it there.





I'm not too familiar with Word Press, but without knowing what modules you're running, and what the memory limit is, and how much you are using, there's not much more I can say.
